Fashion Fix - Nick Carvell

IGTV FASHION FIX

EPISODE 4: HOW SHOULD I APPROACH OCCASIONWEAR THIS SEASON?

Welcome to Fashion Fix at THE OUTNET, our IGTV styling series where we answer your fashion dilemmas.

We asked our male shoppers to share their burning style questions – and were inundated with queries about what to wear for summer’s big occasions, from destination weddings to big nights out. As a men's style and grooming writer, brand consultant and speaker, Nick Carvell was the perfect person to ask for our first menswear-focused episode. He shares his tips about what makes the perfect summer wedding outfit, how to dress for nights out in a post-pandemic world and, hear us out, why you should consider Cuban-heeled boots.

If you have a styling dilemma, send your question to our team via Instagram and we hope to answer it in our future episodes.

“For my first look, I’ve come up with an outfit for an event that probably two years ago we wouldn’t have thought about as an occasion – and that’s going out and seeing your mates for brunch. Underneath the suede Iro jacket, I’ve slipped a very jazzy Canali jumper – the sort of knit everyone will see you wearing a mile off because it just adds impact. And, of course, because we’ve been living in tracksuits for the past two years, I thought I’d wear an actual pair of smart-casual trousers.”

"For me, the epitome of going-out-after-dark-glamour is the French rock star. I’m not a French rock star myself, but I’m hopefully going to bring more of it into my life in 2022. For any man who wants to join me, I would say the place to start is with a Cuban heel boot. Now, some people may think they’re only for the brave, but, honestly, as a man who is 5’11, the extra height makes you feel like a rock star almost instantly. I’ve kept everything black and sleek with a pair of relatively tight Z Zegna jeans and a Sandro biker jacket, which looks great going out, but it’s also great for tonnes of other things. Invest in one, you’ll wear it no end.”

“Keep your fit loose if it’s going to be warm to keep you cool, but also look at the materials your suit is made from. This one from Joseph, for example, is not only unlined, which means that it’s more breathable, but it’s also cut from a linen-cotton mix which is super cool and will let that air through. Now sandals, great for a beach wedding, but I would say, if they’re as beautiful as these ones from Brioni, they’re perfect for a country wedding, as well. If you want something smarter for an urban wedding, then swap out your sandals for a suede loafer.”
