Mapped Out with Odell Mun

MAPPED OUT

WHAT TO DO IN… SYDNEY

Sydney is blessed with visual charm like no other. From the world-famous curves of its Opera House to its sapphire-colored harbour, flanked by parkland and skyscrapers, this is a city where natural beauty and cosmopolitan living collide. An absence of pretention and an optimistic outlook have created a style aesthetic that is laidback, but uncompromising with flashes of boldness. Model and multi-faceted creative Odell Mun moved to Sydney after stints in Melbourne and Adelaide, and it felt like home fast. "Sydney is representative of me taking the next steps in my career and entering the next phase of my life,” he says. “While I often travel outside of the city for work and family, I am always drawn back by its magnetic sense of style and energy." Here, he shares his definitive guide, from the best beach and the most jaw-dropping views to the late-night bar serving up the best pizza.

Sydney style is…

“Mixing and matching signature designer pieces like Gucci printed caps and Louis Vuitton purses. My favorite thing about the people here is that no one is afraid of using monogram-based pieces – they make it known that there is always extra room for more brand labels. That said, there’s also a real love of combining second-hand pieces with high-end or contemporary items, an approach that’s definitely influenced my own style.”

My ultimate piece of style advice is…

“Always play around with shapes that either help reveal or enhance your body type. Also, make use of coordinating colors of opposite tones or shades that unite your outfit.”

A normal weekend is…

“Spending time on the soccer field or being creative with the people around me.”

“Frankie’s Pizza is really good – it plays great rock music, is open till 4am and is packed with people.”

“Granville, in the west of the city, because it has the most incredible Middle Eastern food.”

“Mrs Fields, they also have the best cookies.”

“Newtown, Merrylands and Surry Hills. Each of these areas has a diverse crowd and community and with that comes an array of styles, experiences and food, from which I constantly draw inspiration.”

“Kabul House in Merrylands. It’s a local institution just around the corner from me that sells Afghani food. Even if I moved away, I would always travel back for this place.”
