So Rebecca, tell me about your brand?
RV: We started the brand six years ago, when I was living in London, we took the collection to Paris in the first season and it’s just developed and taken off since there. So we’re really excited!
So since showing your first collection, where else have you shown?
RV: We showed on the official schedule of New York Fashion Week twice, and in Australia once, and we’ll rejoin the New York circuit next year.
How do you ensure your collections resonate globally?
RV: I think, although we have to have a collection that needs to be Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere at the same time, the customer is the same girl. We design one collection but then once we’re finished designing it we’ll think, ‘OK – so it’s about to be fall, we need to make sure we’ve got coats for America’, and then at the same point we might think it’s the height of summer for Australia so have we got the beautiful flowing dresses for 40-degree summer days.
So people always talk about the different cities having different styles around the world, do you see any key differences between how your customer wears the pieces?
RV: We are a dress brand and I find our customer is the same no matter where she lives. She has quite a polished aesthetic, in some areas she might be a little more relaxed, the way they might style the dress might be a little bit different. In Europe she might wear it with a fabulous high heel, whereas in Sydney she’s a bit more undone, she might have a really cool flat shoe or a sneaker with her look.
So you mention the RV girl, who is your ultimate RV girl?
RV: We’ve worked with some amazing celebrities from Rachel McAdams, to Chrissy Teigen, Chanel Iman, Joan Smalls, Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara, Kate Beckinsale – there’s so many. But I think what they have in common is that they are all really elegant and so is their style.
Amazing, thanks so much Rebecca, we’ll talk to you soon!
