WHAT TO WEAR FOR FALL/WINTER
Autumn is here, and we are ready to get back out there, especially with our wardrobes. We asked Kate Benson, THEOUTNET’s head of buying, for three key looks to ease us out of our sartorial hibernation. No scary overhauls, just effortless updates that will slip seamlessly into what we already have - the sporty jacket, statement boots and elevated sweater dressing (we’re not giving up our comfort that easily). Here’s her tips on why they’re key and how to wear them:
Fast-track into fall with a pair of stunning statement boots. A host of styles are ripe for the picking: slouchy, cowboy and over-the-knee, but if we were to pick one wardrobe hero, it would be a chunky, heavy-duty walking style. Whether you keep it sleek in a Chelsea boot or go bold in a biker style, there’s nothing like a stomping sole to give confidence to your look and bring it right up to date. And rest assured, a great pair of boots is one investment that keeps working year after year.
COMFORT IS KEY
Fearful about forgoing your trusty elasticated waists and swapping out your sweats? May we introduce the ultimate fall foolproof - elevated sweater dressing (perfect for anyone with less than 15 minutes to get dressed in the morning). Polished but seriously low maintenance, a plush knitted dress brings all of the pleasure of dressing up, without leaving your comfort zone. Choose different weights and weaves that you can accessorize and layer up at will. As the weather cools, a pile-it-on attitude works well, so cocoon yourself in knits, scarves and snoods, all layered in one single hue for maximum impact. It’s the clothing equivalent of a comfort blanket - or wearing a dressing gown during work hours.
Jackets marrying fashion and functionality are gathering serious pace, especially anything with a sporty vibe. Bombers, bikers and bubble-shaped puffers are transforming weekend and workwear with versatility and edge. The sporty styles - as oversized and quirky-colored as you dare – are fast-becoming the wear-anywhere addition you’ll most come to rely on. Shrug it over a dress or layer-up to ward off a chill – it has a remarkable ability to pull your whole look together, adding shape to an otherwise low-key silhouette. The catwalks were teeming with these sport-filled, extra-warm wonders - It’s like we’re ready to live large but still be cocooned.
