SPRING/SUMMER TRENDS

Spring? What is this spring you speak of? Oh, you mean when we can see the sunlight coming in through our windows and no longer need to turn the boiler to max power. That warm renaissance of life that happens in the great beyond (once known as outside). Yes, that does ring a bell. Certainly not because of all the spring/summer fashion shows we’ve been attending; those have been all but relegated to the digital space with only a handful of designers opting for the in-person display in this bold new world. But nevertheless, these online presentations still allowed us to indulge in the fashion-sphere and treat ourselves to a much-needed buffet of trends. Thankfully, our Interim Managing Director, Vikki Kavanagh, is here to advise on exactly what we should be looking for this season.

JEAN GIRLS

Denim, no longer the dirty word it’s been for the last year. As the sun starts to return to our skies and we manage to see the light beyond our front doors, it’s time to start reaching for the wardrobe icon again. But before she does, Vikki has a few caveats: “It must be high-rise, in slightly wider cuts, and preferably in a mid-wash form that flatters every shape.” Skinny jeans? What’s that? Who’s he?

SORRY, I WAS ON SUIT

Where is your super suit!? We of course mean the suit that makes you feel super powerful and uncompromisingly chic. No longer do you need to adhere to the strict wool blazer + matching trousers combo: short suits, sleeveless blazers, skirts, organza, satin! Whatever you can think of, the runways had on full display. But which did Vikki prefer? “Balmain’s striking shoulder style and Jil Sander’s sheer version were refreshing takes on this sophisticated staple.”

PATTERN PARTY

At Loewe, Versace and Marni, the models were a true vision in print. There was a sea of head-to-toe florals, retro checks, bejeweled beach motifs and other painterly patterns. Start piling on the print and let your personality shine loud and proud in 2021!

YOU CAN COTTON ON IT

Cotton, cotton, who’s got the cotton? Well, Ulla Johnson, Brunello Cucinelli and Chloé all seem to be fans. And Vikki is too. “The way I imagine myself wearing the essential textile this spring is in a much more utilitarian approach,” she explains. “Such as practical boilersuits, cargo trousers and multi-pocketed two-pieces.”
