With the new season comes the opportunity to start afresh and update your current wardrobe with the latest staples. We caught up with our perennially chic global buying and merchandising director, Vikki Kavanagh, to talk us through the latest women's fashion trends spotted at this season's shows and what looks to invest in from THE OUTNET.
‘90s MINIMALISM
Nineties shapes and relaxed, sport-influenced styling are in the spotlight, especially at Prada, Tibi and Gabriela Hearst. It’s time to channel Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein or Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in a white racer-back tank. Vikki’s recommendation? ‘Invest in luxe new basics like pared-back slip dresses, cargo pants and fitted tanks in a monochromatic color palette for a well-edited capsule wardrobe.’
BILLOWING BOHEMIAN
Don’t walk, don’t run, float into every room with a dress that flows around you with every step. Ellery, Valentino and Victoria Beckham mastered the movement with these light-as-air maxi dresses. ‘A long, fluid dress is a one-piece outfit that requires minimum effort but provides maximum impact. Add interest to these free-spirited silhouettes with plenty of accessories.’
RAINBOW BRIGHTS
Standout hues dominated the runway this season with an extra shot of vibrancy. A concoction of hot pink, tangerine and verdant tones spanned the fashion week schedule – particularly at Missoni, Marni and Stella McCartney. Vikki’s top tip to making it work for 2020? ‘For a more refined take on the look-at-me color trend, opt for tonal tailoring with simple details to allow the Starburst shades to shine.'
URBAN SAFARI
The fashion crowd continues to cultivate their infatuation with artisanal craftsmanship, neutral desert shades and all things utilitarian, but how should you style it this season? Just take Vikki’s advice: ‘Silhouettes should be structured, waists cinched with a belt and large, functional pockets placed on the coolest casual jackets. Consider Iris & Ink, Brunello Cucinelli and Anna Quan as your go-to brands for getting the look right this season.’
