Laura Jackson Wedding Interview

WEDDING BELLE

THE BIG DAY: A Q&A WITH PRESENTER, EDITOR AND ONE HALF OF JACKSON & LEVINE, LAURA JACKSON

Was your wedding day look indicative of your general style, or did you get a bit more experimental?

I wanted to be a polished, rolled-in glitter version of me. I didn't want to go full bridal, but I wanted to feel special. I went for a Rejina Pyo dress – she is an amazing designer and also my friend. We worked collaboratively on designing a wedding dress that was something different but still me – a polka dot fabric, with frills and a bow.

What was your first dance to?

We went for 'Stand On The Word' by The Joubert Singers. It’s a really soulful, loud and fun song that always gets us dancing.

Do you have any great tips for table planning and creating a celebratory atmosphere?

Buy your own fabric and have personalised napkins made (you could go as far as embroidering your guests' initials in these) making the setting and placement fun; I had oyster shells painted gold inside. Flowers or foliage are great for adding color if you want to keep the plates, crockery and linen simple. We scented our tent with Jo Malone candles and that really created an atmosphere in the tent, and now whenever I smell that scent it takes me right back to my wedding day

Did things run smoothly on the day – or were there any last-minute hiccups?

Honestly, no dramas at all. The more laid-back you are about things, the less you get bogged down in the small dramas. I'm sure things went wrong, but I was having far too much fun to worry.

Was there any particular moment that stands out for you that captured the joy of the day?

I had a weekend in Cornwall, which meant I could stretch the wedding out. On Friday we had a Mexican night with frozen margaritas and tacos, on Saturday morning pre-wedding we went for a massive group swim, and then there was the wedding itself which was just wonderful. On Sunday – with stinking hangovers – we rented kayaks and had lunch on the beach.

Is there anything you would do differently if you got your time again?

Just that I would like to do it all over again! I loved every single second. When I think back to that weekend it makes me so happy, just to have all my family and friends eating, drinking and dancing together – there really is nothing quite like it.

Were there any special surprises on the day?

That my husband cried, A LOT!Â
